Special Presentation on Fan Architecture

Join The Fan District Association on Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30 p.m., at Fox School, for a special hour-long reprise of “The ‘Palladian Motif’ and Richmond’s Fan District,” two illustrated lectures on the surprising history of some beautiful Fan windows. These lectures were originally given as the opening session of VCU’s 17th Symposium on Architectural History last November.

Charles Brownell, Professor of Art History at VCU, will take the tale of the Palladian Window “From Babylon to the Boulevard.” Allison Frew, the Bess T. Brownell Assistant in Architectural History, will then tell the story of “The Rise of the ‘Palladian Window’: To the Rooftops of the Fan!” The speakers will also announce the topic for the Fan session at VCU’s 18th Symposium to be held on Friday, November 19, 2010.

This special program is open to all FDA members at no charge. Please direct any questions to FDA Board member Jane Hotchkiss at jhotchkiss2@netzero.net.
